The Quest for Enlightenment Part 1 - Documentary on Buddhist Heritage Sites in Pakistan.
Pakistan is the custodian of some of the most sacred Buddhist heritage sites in the world dating back to the 3rd century BC. Pakistan’s Gandhara region offers a unique opportunity for pilgrims and visitors to explore the treasure. The Silk Road Centre in collaboration with the Taxila Institute of Asian Civilizations is bringing a series of visual stories to promote the cultural heritage of the Silk Road and to celebrate cultural diversity.
Pakistan is an important country of the Silk Road. It was the channels of the Silk Road in Gandhara that spread Buddhism from the lands of Pakistan to Central Asia, China and Far East.
The video series highlights the history and treasures of Gandharan Buddhism in Pakistan. This first part presents an overview of Buddhism in Gandhara. The remaining episodes will give viewers a visual treat of the Buddhist heritage in Peshawar, Mardan, Taxila, Haripur, Swat, Islamabad and Rawalpindi. We do hope these short videos will Buddha not only show the ancient cultural treasure of Pakistan to the world but will also attract participation in the ‘2021 International Conference and Art Festival for Promoting Interfaith Harmony’ we Buddha are organizing in Islamabad in October.
